Player-First Management Since 2002

ORR began as Bobby Orr’s vision for a player-first support organization to assist in the development and fulfillment of player careers. Quietly, ORR is respected in the industry as the gold standard of player representation.

Bobby Orr

Bobby Orr

… “’Number 4, Bobby Orr,’ as he was known … reigns as one of the most admired athletes in North America both for his transformative hockey career and personal grace.”
– Bob Holer, Boston Globe – Sept 29, 2013

Bobby Orr played 12 seasons in the NHL (1966-1978) and is today widely recognized as one of the greatest players in the history of the game. His #4 jersey was retired by the Boston Bruins in 1979. Following his legendary NHL playing career and his work as a player agent, Bobby Orr and partners Rick Curran and Paul Krepelka formed ORR in 2002.

Orr’s hockey statistics and awards are without match in the history of the NHL. A full 35 years following his retirement as a player in 1978, he still holds a number of the League’s most coveted records: Most points in one NHL season by a defenceman (139); most assists in one season by a defenceman (102); highest plus/minus in one season (+124); and he is tied for most assists in one game by a defenceman (6). He is the only player in NHL history to win four major awards in one season – the Hart, Norris, Art Ross, and Conn Smythe trophies in 1970; and the only player to win the Norris and Art Ross trophies in the same season more than once.

Bobby won a record eight consecutive Norris Trophies as the NHL’s best defenceman and three consecutive Hart Trophies as the league’s most valuable player. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979, the year following his retirement after the Hall agreed, for the first time, to waive the mandatory three-year waiting period.

But Orr is much more than his playing career and the remarkable statistics associated with it. He is widely recognized for his charitable and philanthropic work in the Boston area where he lives and a number of organizations connected to the sport of hockey. He has been the spokesman for the Chevrolet Safe & Fun hockey program, a joint General Motors of Canada/Hockey Canada initiative, since the program’s inception.

He is a recipient of the Order of Canada and has received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. In 2010, Orr was selected as one of eight bearers of the Olympic flag at the  Opening Ceremonies of the Vancouver Olympic Games and, in 2012, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

He and his wife Peggy reside in Sandwich MA. They have two sons, Darren and Brent; and two grandchildren, Alexis and Robert.

Rick Curran

Rick Curran

Active in the representation of players since 1978, Rick Curran brings over 40 years of experience to ORR. During that time, he has negotiated several of the industry’s precedent setting contracts.

Many of the players Curran has represented are now key decision makers in the game today. The familiarity and trust of those strong relationships provide an important level of communication on behalf of ORR clients.

Rick’s initial association with Bobby Orr began in 1969 as a staff member of Orr Walton Sports Camp. Many of the people he met and the relationships that were forged during those ten summers had a profound impact on his life in hockey.

Following a successful college hockey career at Merrimack College, he was appointed International Hockey Coordinator for Hockey Canada. Rick served as Business Manager for Team Canada for two world championships (1977-Vienna and 1978-Prague) and for the Team Canada Juniors (1978-Montreal).

Partnered with Bill Watters, Curran then helped build Branada Sports Management into one of the business’s premier hockey agencies. Having purchased the company and renaming it Representation Incorporated, he eventually relocated its offices to Philadelphia, PA in 1991 with a then current roster of 44 NHL clients.

That same year with notable clients including Brendan Shanahan, Adam Graves and Mark Recchi he utilized the then applicable Group 1 free agency and its leverage, to create new benchmarks for second contract signings within the NHL. The following summer, Curran continued to make an impact on the salary marketplace when he negotiated the first $20+ million contract with the Philadelphia Flyers on behalf of client Eric Lindros.

In 2000, Rick renewed his association with Bobby Orr and in 2002, partnered with Orr and Paul Krepelka to form ORR. As the current longest-standing agent in the industry, Curran continues to impact the salary market as he focuses his efforts on ensuring that clients of ORR are viewed in the highest regard by those associated with the game today.

Rick and his wife Lisa reside in Naples, FL, and Berwyn, PA. They have three children, Alishia (son-in-law Jason), Ashley (son-in-law Nathan), Michael (daughter-in-law Jessica) and six grandchildren, Sofia, Sienna, Emma, Avery, Michael and Tommy.
