Joel Blomqvist, originally from Nykarleby, Finland, is a goaltender for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Drafted 52nd overall in the second round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Joel built his career within the Oulun Kärpät organization in Finland’s Liiga. During his 2022–23 season with Kärpät, he recorded a 6–5–8 record, a 2.29 goals-against average, a .907 save percentage, and one shutout in 21 games. Following this successful season, Joel signed his Entry Level Contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on April 6, 2023.

In the 2023–24 season, Joel quickly made a mark in the American Hockey League, earning selections to both the AHL All-Rookie Team and the AHL Second All-Star Team. He debuted in the NHL on October 10, 2024, against the Detroit Red Wings, making 29 saves and leading the Penguins to a 6-3 victory.
